Renee Maria Osubu is an award-winning London based, British Nigerian photographer, filmmaker, and Associate Lecturer. She often investigates themes of community, identity, race and childhood. Using the nuances of everyday life as her visual language.
Her acclaimed photo series Dear Philadelphia evolved into an Oscar and BAFTA-qualifying short film, which won Best Short Documentary at Blackstar Film Festival and premiered internationally at Sundance. The film is now available on BFI Player.
Renee's latest short film for Motown Records, Dirt in the Diamond, debuted at Tribeca Film Festival, screened at the Victoria & Albert Museum, and is available on Nowness. Her commercial and music video work has earned her accolades including New Director of the Year at Shots and four Ciclope awards.
In 2024, she debuted her solo exhibition Dear Philadelphia, at the TILT Institute for the Contemporary Image. Her work is now permanently held in the Philadelphia Art Museum Collection. Both her photography and films continue to exhibit around the world, including institutions such as Leica Gallery and the ICA.
